Project SUCCESS (Schools Using Coordinated Community Efforts to Strengthen Students)
The CCSD Healthy Brain Campaign’s individual strategy is Project SUCCESS (Schools Using Coordinated Community Efforts to Strengthen Students). Project SUCCESS is an intensive and comprehensive intervention strategy intended to be implemented in a school setting over the course of a school year. The strategy consists of multiple components:
- The Prevention Education Series: The Prevention Education Series is a multi-session Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention program. It consists of 45 minute lessons, covering four topics (Adolescence, ATOD, Relationships, and Coping Skills), over the course of eight weeks.
- Individual and Group Counseling
- Awareness and Outreach Activities (Examples: Red Ribbon Week, Students Against Destructive Decisions chapter)
- Parent Programs
- Referral to Community Resources (as needed)
Classic City High School Performance Learning Center hosts the program, which is led by School Social Worker and Project SUCCESS Counselor, Claire Cates. All students at Classic City High School receive the Prevention Education Series unless a parent/guardian has opted out of the program. Individual assessments and group counseling are offered to students who may be at a higher risk of drug and alcohol use and referrals are made to community resources as needed.
The Healthy Brain Campaign and the Project SUCCESS program recognize the important role of parents in preventing teenage drug and alcohol use. Parents are the number one reason teens give for choosing not to drink or use drugs. Project SUCCESS offers parent nights throughout the year to give parents a chance to work together on this important issue.
