Positive Social Norms (PSN) is a media campaign which attempts to influence behavior by altering the perception of underage drinking as the norm through messages supporting the healthy choices teens are already making. This campaign targets Clarke County youth age 9-20, with a focus on middle and high school age students (age 11-20).
Teens have a very strong need to fit in and belong. Some youth may be tempted to drink by the belief that “everyone is doing it.” Although that belief is very common, the numbers show that it is not true. In reality, most teens are not using drugs or alcohol! Healthy choices are the norm for youth. Using multiple types of media, the PSN campaign works to spread this message and correct the misperception. This also reinforces the positive choices of our youth and shows that there are alternatives to drugs and alcohol.
